What is one PR strategy you recommend our audience to use in their business?

Too often publicists get promotional with their pitch and miss another opportunity that is staring right at them, the human interest angle connected to the sources behind every story.

How does your PR strategy change from working with a local advertising client to a national advertising client?

With a local strategy proximity is key. Thus, we identify newsworthy hooks that bridge the business and source to the community. In most cases the end goal is driving traffic and revenues, with awareness tied in as well. National PR strategies require identifying even more prominence in your pitch and you have to build into it a wow factor. This means that publicists have to work with clients to uncover the people, products and services within their organizations that command national exposure. The core objective with national press is typically awareness, but revenues are often impacted as well.

Why is the biggest mistake you see people make when pitching the media?

A far too common mistake PR professionals make is failing to understand the type of stories reporters they are pitching are writing. Pitches fail most often due to misunderstanding what reporters are looking to cover.
