What nonprofit do you feel makes the greatest impact in our community?
There are many that I like, including the Obama’s organization, but I’d probably put the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation at the top – fighting poverty, disease and inequity around the world.
What volunteer experience has impacted you the most?
I have been a part of many not-for-profits as a volunteer and board member – two have impacted me 1) a vocational services organization helping new immigrants and also helping the unemployed and underemployed individuals and 2) Children’s Aid Foundation (Canadian version of the foundation funding Child Protective Services)
What’s your favorite way to get involved in the community?
Although many organizations ask for financial donations, I choose to invest more of my time, knowledge and experience. I share my personal story to inspire and to provide personal and professional lessons to help others. And I choose to raise my voice, in as many ways as I can (coaching and mentoring, public speaking and advocacy) to create more diverse, equitable and inclusive environments/communities.
