What is the biggest change in marketing that you see coming in the next 2 years?

  1. People must expect to stay in a digital world thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. That, and people will expect to have their social media handled at a much quicker rate seeing that everyone is working from home…there are no excuses for gaps in deliveries on products and services.
  2. Much more long-form video content is on the horizon. People are swaying away from platforms such as TikTok which generally encourages short-form content and discourages originality. Buyers and clients are looking for deeper connections. The next 2 years will provide more open spaces for that to happen.
  3. More organic video content coming down the pipeline. Instagram will continue to reward users who share transparent and real content, not user generated content. Reward in the sense of increasing their engagement and sharing their content to a wider audience. In the future past the 2 year mark, I predict that platforms like Instagram will be sharing a points system with its users where they will reward good content for good “behavior” and discredit accounts for bad behavior. Think of it as a social credit system for social media. They’ll then have real-life rewards you can cash-in such as funding for projects and team getaways. This is a direct hit against TikTok which celebrates inorganic content. Video content is king (or queen) and allows users to better connect to brands and small businesses. People love facial recognition; it builds trust with your audience.

What is the advantage to working with an outside media buyer as opposed to having just an internal marketing director?

The advantages of working with an outside social media team namely is that there will be many more eyes on your work before it goes live, for instance. A meeting of the minds is better than having one singular marketing director.

What is one tip that you would give when it comes to media planning?

Schedule your content out at least a month in advance.
