On “Media Champions,” our host speaks with experts within the marketing community. This week our host speaks with Adam Muscott from BAM Strategy. To learn more check out www.bamstrategy.com.

What is the biggest change in marketing that you see coming in the next 2 years?

A better understanding of the consumer journey and how touchpoints can have impact on consumer behavior – leading to more intelligent application of available marketing vehicles

Are their any trade organizations or groups that you belong to?

Not currently. We belong to multiple groups on Facebook and LinkedIn that cover various topics (e.g. Online Ad Professionals on LinkedIn)

What is the advantage to working with an outside media buyer as opposed to having just an internal marketing director?

First of all, exposure to multiple campaigns enables more robust, diverse and well rounded media plans. Access to a larger, varied talent pool (beyond media planning and optimization) from which to build a holistic plan.

What is one tip that you would give when it comes to media planning?

Don’t forget the importance of the creative. When building your plan think of the placements that will align best to your message, delivery method and ultimate desired consumer response (and build an experience that will align to that)

How does a media buyer stay on top of trends with media placement?

We invite our media team to subscribe and read to specific industry publications and build individual learning agendas for each team member. We have weekly meetings amongst the media team where each week a member of the team brings a piece of news or a finding from a campaign they are running that can be applied to current media programs. Also, weekly we seek to meet with different media partners and outlets to expand options for our client programs and/or partner relationships. Further we have specific client meetings with specific partners like Google, Facebook and others on an ongoing basis to see how we can participate in Betas and learn what other brands are doing.
