Why did you choose your industry?Real Estate is a key to reducing our nation's carbon footprint, and the best way to make Real Estate part of the solution is from within. I wanted to be closer to the source so I could create better solutions for building owners to decarbonize their assets.
Who are your typical clients?Real estate developers and portfolio owners of multifamily, student housing, master planned communities, assisted living communities, etc.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I like the ability to teach an industry about about energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainability.
What are common problems you see?Real estate owners are very reactionary to current market conditions (understandably so), but it makes it difficult to take very long-term views on investment and sustainability. Furthermore, while real estate owners will focus on amenities and aesthetics to promote their properties to tenants, there is a lack of focus on total cost of occupying a space and energy costs.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?We work to market our services through targeted outreach to real estate portfolio owners and referrals within the industry. We target companies with publicly stated sustainability goals.
