What is one PR strategy you recommend our audience to use in their business?
I actually have 8 strategies that I share in my book, “PR Rules: The Playbook.” These start with Create a Stunning Website to Play it Forward.
What is your favorite advertising campaign that you have created for a client or participated in?
I create podcasts and video (TV) interviewee’s shows hosted by my clients to increase their visibility and keep them relevant. These are featured on my website www.InkandescentRadio.com and each client gets a playlist on my YouTube channel www.Inkandescent.tv. We get more than 400K views/month on the sites, and also push their episodes out on iTunes, Spotify, and iHeart Radio.
How does your PR strategy change from working with a local advertising client to a national advertising client?
I tend to work nationally, so there is no limit on the visibility I can get my clients. Working locally requires a direct marketing approach, and when I do this I focus more on getting them on local TV, buying ads (and getting earned media) in local newspapers and magazines. My preference though is to play bigger = go national and use the Internet and social media as the platforms to promote, publish, and shine.
Why is the biggest mistake you see people make when pitching the media?
They don’t tell the truth! And, they don’t prepare their clients to talk to a reporter. As a journalist, I’ve experienced this firsthand.
