How long have you been in your industry?30 years
Why did you choose your industry? That's what I went to college for. I have known I was a writer since I was 5 and came up through the content ranks.
Who are your typical clients?small to mid-sized manufacturing/industrial clients of $50M or less and 100 people or less who usually don't have a CMO or marketing department usually
What do you like best about being in this industry?Everything around us was manufactured by someone. The technology is amazing. The people are real. This industry is the backbone of the U.S.
What are common problems you see?Workforce, recession, bottom-of-funnel focus, lack of understanding of marketing and the value, operating like in the 1950s
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Marketing is a revenue generator not a cost center if done right and strategically rather than with a scattershot approach. It is a process like any. You have to start at the beginning of the process (strategy) not the end of the process (lead generation) when you are in an emergency with no cash flow and bottom of funnel tapped out. Constantly fill and nurture the funnel.
When is your busy season?Q1
What keeps you up at night?lately, high inflation, election year, recession that causes people to retreat rather than to advance
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? The ways I do for my clients: claiming local listings, content, social media, email marketing, networking, referrals, partnerships, warm calling, drip campaigns, webinars and podcasts. Everything but PPC so far.
How involved are you in the community?I have been an office or PEO International. At my church I am co-chair on the employment ministry, have helped with refugee home setups, mentored a young woman from India looking for work, supported the Ukrainian families in the area. I am on the membership committee of Women in Manufacturing. I am an alpha team lead for the H7 Manufacturing East meeting. I belong to many entrepreneurial women's groups, as well as a local chamber of commerce.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?PEO International that raises money for scholarships for women
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business? It is better to know more than to specialize. It also will benefit you to add tools to your toolbox that are not just marketing related like AI, video editing, InDesign, Canva. What catapulted my career was learning languages other than marketing like Lean Six Sigma and Sandler sales training.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?play with my kittens, mixed media art, reading, writing, thrifting/resaling, cooking, watching cooking shows, yoga, meditation
